CWS Door Installation: The Brownsville Owner’s Guide

We install CWS door systems and replacement parts throughout Brownsville, with most CWS door installations running between $1,200 and $4,800 depending on the model, size, and whether we’re doing a full frame replacement or a slab swap. If your CWS door is hard to close, leaking air, or the hardware is failing, we typically have the parts on the truck or can source them within 48 hours. Most Brownsville homeowners discover the problem after a storm, when a warped frame or worn threshold finally lets water in after years of slow wear.

Here’s the thing about CWS doors in South Florida: they’re built for impact, but the components that fail first are almost always the ones that take daily abuse. Rollers, hinges, weatherstripping, and multipoint lock mechanisms. The door slab itself might have another decade in it, but the hardware gives out long before the glass does. That’s where we come in. We’re an independent installer, not a CWS corporate entity, which means we give you straight answers about what’s worth fixing and what’s worth replacing.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS manufactures several door lines that show up regularly in Brownsville homes, and the compatibility quirks matter. We work on the CWS 900 Series, the 9000 Series, and their newer impact-rated hinged door systems. The big gotcha we see: CWS hardware from the 900 Series doesn’t always interchange with the 9000 Series, even when the doors look nearly identical from the outside. The hinge spacing and lock prep differ by as much as 3/8 of an inch, and forcing a mismatch creates alignment problems you’ll fight forever.

How to identify what you have: look for the CWS label on the hinge edge of the door slab, usually a silver or white sticker with the model number and manufacturing date. If the sticker is gone? Measure the slab thickness and the distance between hinge centers. Those two numbers narrow it down fast. For OEM versus aftermarket: we recommend OEM CWS parts for multipoint locks and anything in the impact-rated assembly. For rollers, hinges, and weatherstripping, aftermarket equivalents from reputable suppliers work as well as OEM at roughly 60% of the cost. We’ll tell you which is which before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your CWS Door Installation Is Failing

  • Door drags or catches at the bottom. This usually means the slab has settled fractionally or the threshold has shifted. In Brownsville’s sandy soil, minor settling is common and it wears the bottom sweep fast.
  • You can see daylight around the edges. Weatherstripping has compressed or torn, and with Florida humidity, that gap becomes a mold invitation and an energy leak at the same time.
  • The multipoint lock won’t throw all the way. This is the most common CWS failure we replace. The gearbox inside the lock body strips, especially if the door was forced while partially locked.
  • The door groans or squeaks when opening. Hinge bearings wear out. It’s a simple fix if caught early, but dragged along too long, the hinge mortise wallows out and you’re looking at a more involved repair.
  • Impact-rated glass shows fogging between panes. The seal has failed. That means the insulated glass unit loses its thermal rating, and in an impact door, resealing is not a shop fix. You need a replacement IGU matched to your CWS frame.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Typical Installed Price Range
CWS door slab replacement (same frame) $800 - $1,800
Full CWS door system (frame + slab, impact-rated) $2,200 - $4,800
Multipoint lock replacement (OEM CWS) $280 - $520
Weatherstripping and threshold replacement $140 - $340
Hinge and roller replacement $120 - $260

Those ranges reflect what we’ve actually installed in Brownsville this year, but every opening is different. What drives cost: whether the existing frame is square and salvageable, which CWS series you have, and whether we’re matching an existing finish or changing hardware style. Every quote is line-item, parts and labor separate, and it’s fixed before we start. No change orders unless you ask for something different mid-job. The workmanship is backed by our Done Right Promise, and Brownsville residents never pay a trip charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the honest split. You can safely check your weatherstripping, clean the track, and tighten hinge screws. Those take fifteen minutes and might solve a minor drag or air leak. But anything involving the multipoint lock body, hinge replacement, or impact-rated glass is not a weekend project. CWS multipoint locks are timed mechanisms, and putting one in wrong means a door that won’t lock at all. Impact-rated glass under tension will cut you badly if mishandled. We’ve seen enough DIY jobs in Brownsville that ended with a call to us anyway, the only difference being a stripped screw hole or a bent trim leg that made the real repair more expensive.

If the door is fighting you, stop and call us. Ed Winslow grew up in the Brownsville neighborhood, and he’s been taking doors apart and putting them back together since he was a kid helping his grandfather near Roberto Clemente Park. We’ll come look at it, tell you exactly what it needs, and give you the quote before any work starts.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."

TThaddeus Okonkwo
★★★★★

"He replaced the front door and the garage door in the same week, both rated for impact, and lined the frames up so straight my level had nothing to say. My wife stopped hearing the highway from the front room."

MMaximilian Vasquez
★★★★★

"The old aluminium sliders howled every afternoon storm and swelter came straight through the glass. The new impact sliders shut with a sound like a bank vault and the back rooms finally hold their temperature."
